I'm having a very specific issue with my E250. Occasionally (increasingly) the transmission will play up, and then sorts it's self immediately when stopping and restarting the ignition.
This is what happens: the car sticks in 6th, won't rev past about 3k struggles to kick down and when in manual mode won't shift. When coming to a halt, the downshift is not smooth, especially jerkey when going into 1st.
The car has had its usual 70k transmission oil changes according to schedule, last one 15k ago. Still an excellent runner with no other issues and full service history.
1st time it happened I took to a specialist who ran the car and diagnostics without joy. Its now happening more frequently. Happens under various conditions, Inc. not under strain.
Any ideas would be welcome from forum members with technical experience.
Cheers. Ant

Sounds like electroplate, get the codes read using MB STAR diagnostics before throwing money at it.

Great advice. Just one thing, after 1st time, STAR showed no faults, at least none came back from the independent Merc specialist. Will it always show up if thus is the issue?

I’d get the fault codes read again. It sounds like one of the speed sensors on the electroplate is failing. These can be replaced individually by someone like Actronics. I’ve used them myself, and they are good

If it's the electroplate it will throw up codes. On my CLK the gear box worked OK on start up.
Leave the car for a few hours and on start up, warm, the gear box fun started.

Quick update. Not had a chance to get the car checked yet. After a few days of going into limp mode with no warning lights, an orange engine warning light showed. This was on a long journey. On the return, no warning light and no limp mode. I have an OBD11 reader, so out of curiosity plugged it in when I got home -
It threw up code 2452: "diesel particulate filter differential pressure too low bank 2" . I've ordered a replacement; this may or may not be the issue. If it isn't, I'll get it onto STAR at local Merc Specialist. Fingers crossed, and will update. Thanks for the posts.and advice.
