I've got a 500 sl which occasionally refuses to start. It seems to be a fuel problem, and when it does start it runs perfect.
I've been trying to locate the fuel pump relay but can't seem to find it. Does anyone know where it's located?
Thanks Oliver.

I always get this wrong so its either behind the glove box or instruments, accessed from underneath.

I've managed to locate the relay - it's behind the panel below the steering wheel. I was wondering if anyone knows how to test it before going out to buy a new one.
P.S. I've read "greybeards" thread on similar problems with his 190e - I suppose some of that would apply to my model.
Any answers appreciated
Oliver

Join pin 30 to pin 87 in the holder, if the pump runs then its the relay.

Most faults on these are where a part of the PCB track gets blown off, but it is possible to solder a bridging wire

If the pump works when pin 30 & 87 are shorted together, would running the car for quite a distance - 80 miles, cause damage to other components? obviously I'd have reinstalled the relay.
Any ideas?
Oliver

I am not sure on this one as the limiter is on it along with the cut off for the fuel

The rev counter may not work, but not sure, it should be OK though

Have you tried to open the relay
