Driving Ok then loses speed - limited to 35 mph at times - especially on hills. Once at the top - OK again. Doesn't overheat. This also happens on the flat but less predictable.

Have replaced the following:
Fuel injectors
spark plugs & wires
catalytic converter
distributor
fuel pump

Timing is fine

Have taken it to the dealer - almost ripped off (needed to drop the gas tank to check the fuel lines!) Also another German car repair shop - has seen it. Am about ready to donate to the Kidney Foundation!

 Would appreciate suggestions on what this might be & how to fix it! Aloha, Hawaii Mercedes

Have you checked your airfilter...best to check the obvious before spending loads of money.

BTW, what colour are your plugs...you should get an idea whats going on by taking a look at them.

Hawaii, your problem sounds the same as my car did a couple of years back. The ECU memory module gave up the ghost and I too was limited to about 30mph. On speaking with my mechanic, he said that most ECU will have some sort of 'get you home' mode.

I did question why the car seemed fine upto about 35....He explained from his knowledge it was because if someone were to be on a motorway or fastish road, that they could still drive at a suitable pace until a suitable exit was found.

Good Luck in your enquiries...post back to the board what you find!

Cheers
