I am at a loss and before I spend any more money on keeping the "Ghost" on the road any longer, I thought I would ask for help.

Today I discovered my battery had died on my 89 Merc Benz 190E. Upon a jump, I heard a clicking, on and off, on and off. Only when I got out of the car did I realize my hazzards were on. But the issue is they arn't. When I sat in the car, I flipped the hazzard switch to the "on" position and the sound and lights became brighter. When turned them off, the faint sound continued with the lights continuing to blink - although not as bright. I think this killed the battery.

I then tried removing the fuses, 9 - 11 and could not get the blinking to stop. Only when I accidentaly crossed the 10 fuse on the 9 fuse did it stop. Other than that, I can't find any info on what would cause this and more importantly, why it is happening.

Im not that techinical and in need of help.

Thanks

I suspect that you have a bad earth. In the same way that when you see some cars from the rear as indicate to go around the corner and then brake the indicators work well untill the brake is pressed and then both the brakelights and the indicators blink dimly. This has something to do with the earth having to travel through both the indicator and brake bulbs.

At the time they were on dimly did you have any other function on such as side lights that also looked dim. Check all your earthing points. Use a pieve of wire with a crocodile clip at either end and place one end on the negative battery terminal. With the other end go around the car looking for brown wires with ringlets on the end which are fixed to the bodywork with self tappers and then place the other crocodile on them.

There might be an earthing point under the centre consule which I assume is where your hazard switch is likely to be. I am guesing that the problem most likely is in the boot which is prone to dampness and therefore rusting of the earth points. Good Luck

has it ever had an alarm system fitted to it? this could be faulty causing your hazards to run even if it may ahve been half heartilly disconnected
