I put a bulk order in (for the 1st time) with my local Tesco on Monday for 150 ltrs of their 1ltr bottles of Pura Veg oil, the price being 56p on Monday, which it's been for several months previously.

Loaded up the trolley with the boxes this morning and when it was scanned, came up at £1.07 per (1ltr) bottle - an increase of 91%!!

They store now has enough stock to last them for months...

If the other Veg oils go up with such a dramatic increase, currently 76p /ltr when buying the Costco 20 ltr drums, there'll be a 1999 E300 for sale soon...

This lot of corrupt clowns would tax the air you breathe, if they could

Don't give them any more ideas for God's sake.

TBH I was too young to "get" what the poll tax was about. There were lots of riots and people refused to pay?

I remember it well.

In PRINCIPLE it was all about being 'fair'. Everybody who lived in a property PAID for the services they received. In other words, it was unfair that PER PROPERTY a single resident paid exactly the same as a property housing a family of multiple wage-earners. That was FAIR. Unfortunately, those who had 'benefited' from this UNfair scheme, were the ones who had revolted. In basic terms, they suddenly had to 'pay their way' - which they objected to. Simple as.

Lets face it

Now the Americans are using food to make bio-fuel the supply of all foodstuffs, not just veg oil, is going to shoot up.

Englands green and pleasant land will turn bright yellow under oilseed rape and it will stink.

Our goverment uses the crisis as an excuse to raise taxes but refuses to use the tax revenue to do anything to allevieate the problem.

While we have the likes of Bush, Blair and Brown in charge we just can only expect more and more of the same.

I'd leave the country but everywhere else is just as bad:-x

I understand the rumors about the vegoil-price is going up. I'm driving my mercs for now 10 Years with rape seeded oil from the farmer or the cheaper cooking oil from Tesco's etc.
I'm also disappointed but you have still the chance to collect waste oil and filter it.

On the other hand I'm more concerned about the German and EU politics to put more natural oil in the Diesel by default (up to 10%). The disadvantages is that prices for food are going up worldwide. So may it's time to think about a gas conversion for the next 5-10 years until the amount of diesel cars go dawn and the diesel price settles a bit :)

I always thought I was the only person in the country that thought poll tax was a good thing. Living in an inner city socialist state our "housing tax" reduced by 60% in the first year. Unfortunately the government of the day gave up rather than pushing on with the policy.

its not too late to bring back Maggie :)

Where we used to live there were 2 identical houses (4-bed detached) One of the properties was owned by a Widow, who receives a whopping 25% discount on her Council Tax. The other propertiy had a family of 4 married couples - who were ALL wage-earners. Nothing fair about THAT, is there?
