hi there,

Is there any difference on using 93 or 95 octane fuel for MB E200, 92. If yes, what it may lead to? Please, throw some light onto this

We can't get 93 octane here. I believe its 95 or 97 in the UK. I wouldn't use 93 in anything heavier than a lawn mower. Is 93 oct what we used to call 2 star ?.

The ECU in that car should have a timing plug that can be set for 92 octane (I suppose it's 92 RON as there is also MON..etc.). Modern engines with knock sensors will automatically adjust between 92 to 98.

Thx for ur replies,

I am in Azerbaijan and we have 76, 93, 95 and diesel fuels used here. All modern cars use 95 octane and of course the most expensive. 93 is a bit cheaper than 95. That is why asked such question... Anyway, what differences it makes?

The octane rating is the fuels strength. Lower octane=lower power and so higher fuel consumption. I had the same problem between 95 and 97 octane here. I found that 97 didn't reduce the consumption enough to justify the extra cost (I go through 2 tanks a week) though it did seem to pull better up hills, so I went back to 95. The car will run on 93 (taking into account the advice above) but the Merc is heavy and the engine is going to have to work harder with weaker fuel. If it's an older car, I'd be tempted to stick with 95 if the cost is bearable. If not, try 93 for a few weeks and see how it performs.

OK, it does not worth to operate with cheaper and weaker fuel to economize... Thx Jberks
