the top will not go down. a local import auto mechanic says it is the limit switches at the point where the top locks to the front windshield. the right one thinks it is always closed. this is a new vehicle for me. my first mercedes. it this a common problem. the cost estimate to replace both left and right limit switches is $1000. ($481 cost per switch). Is the in line?

chances are the switches are just stuck in the closed position, try to remove them and clean them up or spray some wd40 on them this will hopefully release them
