'95 C180-Shudder on pulling away from stand still.

G'day all,
Has anyone experienced an incredibly annoying shudder whilst pulling away in a '95 C180. It happens regularly unless I bring up the revs up to about 2000rpm. (I am kinda guessing here, but it is dashed noisy!!)

Is there something wrong - or is it another example of a crap manual box?

Hi. Sounds like gear oil leaking onto your clutch disc from the spigot shaft oil seal. Chech your engine and gearbox mountings while your at it ....

Just before you whip the gear box out. Are you sure its not a missfire. Remove the plugs and check for signs of arcing on the porcelin. If so. Replace the relevant plug and lead.


Sounds like its more like a missfire to me. Either way its easier than removing gear box first.

Before doing anything, check the propshaft coupling is not worn and split.

These are replaced often at the MB dealer I worked at.

I get the same clutch problem

I do get shuddering when I pull away, however, in my case the problem is intermittent. It does seem to be related to the clutch and seems to happen after the car the car has been in heavy traffic and the temperature as risen or when the clutch has been in constant use, or with a heavy passanger load. This problem can persist for days and then disappear for months.

I have the exact problem with my C180 (manaual) as you described. Do you have any idea of what the problem might be?
