hi everyone, just fitted a second hand maf, this has restored the engine's smooth running as with the previous maf the engine was terrible, missing jerking etc. the problem now is a noticable lack of power, like the turbo is not working. a steady driver like my wife would not know there was aproblem untill she tried to overtake somthing, you get the revs but no power. one member has suggested that the second hand maf could be slightly faulty, in my mind a maf is like a light bulb, it either works or it doesant. i base this assumption on the fact that if i disconnect the maf the engine is terrible, when i connect the second hand one i have just received the car runs smooth, but no power. the question is, do i have a turbo relief valve sticking open or can there be a maf which is working but poorly ?any help much appreciated. herbiemercman.

A MAF could work badly - giving incorrect readings to the ECU, but I'd expect poor running and a warning light if its out enough to reduce power. I suspect there is something else afoot here.

hi jberks, thankyou for your reply, i tend to gree with your comments as the difference i experience from the faulty maf to the current second hand one is dramatic, also the inde i am involved with said from the start of my problems in late dec. 08. that the engine was down on power, his "star" also said there was a boost pressure issue. i am only hesitant to put all my faith in my inde in oldham because he sent me two incorrect mafs and said they just use one for petrol and one for diesel ? he is so helpful but i can tel he is not technical, good mechanic, but goes all fussy with the engine management electronics, then reverts to what many others do of changing parts untill somthing resolves the problem. some merc. eng. management probs. are like a walk in the fog, so i can't be critical of the inde who is trying to resolve my problem. thankyou for your help. i will struggle on. herbiemercman.
