Hi I have a 230SLK which is up on stands for the winter 'tinkering, cleaning, shining and improving session 2007/8'. The brake pipes need doing so I plan on doing that and replacing the flexi hoses while I'm at it.

This may seem dense and I'm probably looking in all the wrong places, but does anyone do precut/shaped copper brakework for the SLK? also I want to replace the flexi hoses with the aeroquip stanless steel braided types (I have fitted them on my bike - what a difference in 'feel'). I've found a US supplier, but as I'm in the UK, I really dont want to have them flown over the pond and have to pay customs on them. Anyone know of a UK supplier for both items, please?

best,

Jim

Just had some special Goodgridge flexes made up from samples for an RX7. £93 for a 5 line set with the fronts having strut mount fittings in the middle. Stevson Motors in Birmingham, but workmanship only adequate. Flexolite in Hereford advertise a Goodrige hose service for Classic cars. Both on internet but I can find Tel Nos if you need. Suggest invest in brake spanners for flare nuts if you haven't already got them, always assuming Merc uses similar brake nuts to Mazda(never had to look).

PS I think there are companies who carry copper/corrosion-resistant fixed pipe kits in stock, but perhaps only for very popular older UK classics.
It should be possible to make a pattern from wire to take to a specialist to get them made up, after all it's only the length you want, the final bending's done when fitting on the car. The fittings can be a problem though, you need to know in advance what flare nut thread etc.
