Thanks...I found it. However, the plastic phillips head screw is damaged and I can not turn it. The phillips head is stripped. Any suggestions on removing this screw and then finding a replacement (maybe metal)?
You don't have to remove the vent to drop the cover piece (in my E anyway) the other thing to note is that the plastic screw is not a screw and only turns a 1/4 turn to the left, you then prise it out carefully.
As blobcat says, just turn the screw 1/4 turn anti- clockwise, you can use a small flat head screwdriver as it is not tight. Then cut a slot across the screwhead with a hacksaw and clean up the head to allow you to use a flat screwdriver to reinstall and it will never be seen.
Thank you everyone. I replaced the filter without any problems and what used to be a high setting (airflow) is now a low setting. It is a fantastic difference and now I am freezing in the car whereas I was sweating before. I am sure a lot of people do not know of this filter replacement. Since the car is 8 years old, I guess you kind of get used to the gradual loss in airflow and finally, it is so bad that you have to complain and look for solutions. Thanks to this web site, I am now enjoying my ride again.
