It will need a new switch, is it the plastic or metal key, I take it that you cannot turn the key

would this be the same fix as suggested elsewhere as per the following??

This fault is the aux cooling fan in the left hand fuse box blowing a fuse in the K 40 relaybox. The fan is blowing the fuse. You need to disconect the fan and renew the fuse and all will be well. The fan is connected by two wires from the top of the K40 in a single conector block

I believe that the park lock is controlled by a cable and can be overridden by pulling the appropriate cables to release the lock out whilst moving the lever to N.
The handbrake shouldn't jam though as its utterly unrelated.
I had a C220 barrel fail. The dealer mechanic used this method to get it to roll up a low loader.

the handbrake issue is probably the rear pads stuck to the disk if you have had it sat around a while , first you need to feed the car some power of a jump pack to get out of park , it wont budge unless the ignition is on and theres power to the unit , then you need to put it in neutral and rock the car gently till the pads release.

Hi Guys

just finally getting back to you here. Managed to get around park & stuck handbrake issue.
This model car has the plastic key type, and we now think chip needs replacing in key.
Local stealership wants circa 600 quid to fix. Any cheaper methods???
car chassis number is WDB21003S2A759501
TY: 210
p2: 4

Any thoughts on this???

Thanks

The DAS section in the igntion is a common fault and the only remedy is to replace the lock circa £450 plus fitting.

Can you explain briefly what the DAS section is and what it does????

you definitely think it's this and not the chip???

Many thanks

DAS is " drive authorization system " Yes a chip has failed but it is not replaceable. This is what makes MB's so hard to steal but expensive when it fails

So just to be exactly clear(only want to spend the money once!!!!)
a chip of some sort has failed in the DAS unit, and has to be replaced as a whole brand new unit from Mercedes.Absolutely no way round it??????
