Hi

Was the battery flat and if so how long did you take to replace it. As per another thread you generally have around 2 mins to replace a battery otherwise it needs re-syncronising to the car.
Do you have the other key and does that work?

Key

No I only have 1 key ...Battery wasn't disconnected. Can re synch be done by someone coming out to the car or do you have to get it to a dealer..nearest one is 70 miles!!!

There should be a procedure in the manual for re-sync. However if you cannot get it to turn in the ignition then that won't work. Are you sure that the batteries in the key are good?
How long were the batteries out of the key before you replaced them?
If you could find the other key that would be a benefit
MB service will come out to you it may be worth giving them a call. (Depends a bit on when you last had your car in an MB dealer as to the validity of your Mobil-life)

Left the key in for a couple of hours ...went back and tried the buttons a few times and.............success!! Don't know why but have read elsewhere that leaving the key in the ignition gets it back in sync...bit nervous to go too far until I get a second key...Thanks for your advice guys.

Glad it's worked out for you. Don't be tempted by the spare keys on Ebay as they can't be re-coded.
