Hi

I have had my C230K Sport for 2 months, best car so far. My problem first appeared after driving on very wet roads with standing puddles. The ABS and ESP lights came on. The next thing I noticed was the paddle shift was stuck in gear and the Speedo had stopped working. If I stop the engine and then restart everything starts working again and the lights go out. This is proving to be an intermittent fault until yesterday when I was breaking quite lightly and the near side front tire locked up smoking quite badly and took a while to stop.:(

I have read the threads about brake light switches and cleaning the ABS system, but it seems there's more going on than that.

I have also recently had the car converted to run on LPG :-D

Thank you

Jon

Hi Jon and welcome to the forum, you probably have water in the electrics or you are losing a speed signal.

I am sure that we have just done the same car and faults.

What is the VIN first 6 numbers WDB208---

looking at your VIN I can see now that it is going to be water in the fuse box and a contaminated SAM. They have modified lids now and gaskits.

See what I can find on Sat.

Hi, I have looked between the fuse box and the brake vacuum, there is a pool of water standing under these components. Is the water dripping through the fuse box? & what do I need to do about the contaminated SAM? is it behind the fuse box?

Thanks

MB now has two modified modified lids for this, the small one and the big one.

I will post back later tonight.

The lid part numbers are small A202 545 14 03. large A208 545 00 03 05

I would suggest that you disconnect the battery and unplug all of the relays and dry the box out with a warm air gun and make sure that the SAM and other modules are absolutely dry before putting them back.

I use a Bosch variable heat gun at the mid setting and has a little more blow than a hair drier.

These things chase the water out from under components and sockets drying as it blows. Its OK if the fuse box gets hot, but by moving the gun the whole time nothing will melt.

I bought a 36" TV for £1 that had been out in the rain, 2 weeks ago and it was full of water, using the above method I dried it out. It took an hour and there are very high voltages in these things 36kv. It worked and I sold it that day.

Do not hold the gun still, a hair drier would take a little longer but safe in inexperienced hands.
