99 C180 Auto gearbox problems

Hi newbie here please be patient. I have a problem where when car is warm it seems to get stuck in top gear. Coming to lights etc you have to accelerate hard to get moving. I found that putting it into park mode then back to drive changes the gear to limp home (1st gear) then car revs like mad. Asked mechanic - thought it was MAF but no joy. He checked and changed ATF but problem still intermittent. Any clues as to my next step? thanks in advance.PS great site and great info!!

The same thing happened to me, we'll se what the mechanic finds out tomorrow.
doesn't anyone know whats wrong, quick fix to svae lot's of hard earned money

Sonds like the conductor plate to me, not too expensive with a good gearbox guy

If it is the conductor plate, £600 at MB all in, about half that price if not less at a decent specialist.
