99 c220 cdi wiper

The wiper on my c220 cdi still moves however it is stuck in the extended position,therefore stricking the window edge on return to the drivers side. I took it to the garage who told me I needed to replace the whole unit at a cost of £425.00, I was waiting for him to start laughing, but no joy, he was serious, surely this is not right, would appreciate any ideas please

If its siezed that bad you may have to take a wire brush to it.

You may have to remove the entire wiper assembly for easy access, its fairly simple, just a few bolts underneath the bonnet (on my E-class theres a piece of plastic cowl to remove first though).

I suggest you manually push the blade inwards, if the problem is persistent you will need to resort to the “lollypop” stick fix, click on the links here… http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/showthread.php?t=34016&page=3
