A/C Repair cost - E240 in good condition.

I need the condenser replacing due to a "bad leak" and the local Aircon specialist has quoted me £543.03 VAT inclusive to do the job which includes condenser, Drier, Diagnostic Plug-In test(something about having to cover the cost of purchasing a diagnostic tool, not specifically for this job I might add!) Labour and Re-gas.

My other concern is that I know the compressor is very suspect as it was 'noisy and rattled a bit' before the A/C failed altogether so he tells me that due to the "bad leak" he was unable to "test the compressor" which I am a tad concerned about.

So dear friends what thoughts if any do you have.

PS he said to replace the compressor it would cost another £400/500! and I guess extra labour etc etc

"Repaired" a/c systems in my opinion never reach the performance of new . There are still old components in the system and performance will never be the same. Seems a lot of cash to fork out.

Not sure as I agree with your first point as it is all about quality of workmanship etc but you are right about the "cash to fork out" and since posting this I called the Merc dealer and my local Indie to see what they would charge - the Dealer wanted £378.73 + VAT and the Indie around £248 (using an after market condenser) all in! Going with the Indie as I am viewing this as a decent cost effective solution pending potential parting with the car.:|
