Hi guys,

First of all merrry christmas everyone; I bet Auto Glym made a fortune out of families this year!

I've bought my wife a Dension iceLink FM modulator for her ipod - the hardwired version that plugs into the antenna socket. This means I need to get access to the rear of the radio. She has an A Class (new 2005 model). Does anybody know how to get the dash panels off?

I've fitted a similar device in my C Class coupe and needed to remove Torx screws through the air vents and ashtray; all fairly straight foward. This A Class's dashboard appears to be moulded from a single piece of plastic!

Any help gratefully received - many thanks in advance...

I think that you will need to put the car model up as the insides are not the same.

Good point, Malcolm. The car is an 05 reg A180 CDI Avantgarde. It has the standard single CD radio unit and has the metallic-effect strips down either side of the central dash area.

Too new for me. Why not ask your dealer, they will normally print out this info for you.

Yes, I know as i've fitted comand's into A's and B classes. Assuming yours is a W169 (new shape).

You are going to need two special Mercedes tools to do it. Take a look at Richards excellent website http://www.mercupgrades.com. He details in there how to remove the centre heater vent then the lower centre switch panel. This gives access to the audio/comand unit securing screws.

Be very careful not to touch the two side trim strips of the centre console as they are not part of the dismantling process and will easily become damaged

If you get stuck and fancy a trip to Woking I'll remove it for you.

Good luck and happy new year!

EDIT: I've just read some other replies and yours is an A169. I can have this out for you in about 5 minutes. Re-assembly is just as quick.
