A Class Bas/Esp malfunction + engine hesitation?

Hi there! I've got a 1999 A class and I experienced a bit of a problem this morning. While pulling away and starting to accelerate the engine momentarily hesitated and the entire instrument cluster lit up (like upon ignition) and when the car started to accelerate again the BAS/ESP warning light was still lit. It goes out when restarted but I had another episode with the momentary loss of power (and it is VERY short) and the same thing happened with the warning light. Does anyone have any suggestions where to start looking for the problem? I know about the brake light switch but this wouldn't cause the engine hiccup, would it? There's loads of topics on this but no resolution.

I've been googling like someone possessed since I'm taking the family on a touring holiday on Monday!!! Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA!

Hi & Welcome,
It may be worth having the error codes read to see what is going on.
Television will probably be on later and have a dig thorugh his data for you.

I have a 2000 a class and on sunday the same thing happened i looked it up and if the battery falles to under 10 amps then the bas/esp lamp comes on. It was on all the way home but when it turned the ignition on again after i stopped it had gone off .Got me home ok but gave up the ghost completely had it towed this morning and they think its the starter motor.

I've been on other forums and a few have mentioned the battery. Did you get the power loss too, RCLORLEY? It's momentary but a bit unnerving....like a mini stall.

:-x Geez, you're having no luck, eh? The battery was checked last night and seemed okay but I'm wondering if it's worth changing it anyway. ****** car...
