Can anybody help - my dealer has had my car in twice and cannot solve the problem of an intermittant oil light showing on the dash ( usually for 20 to 60 seconds) the oil level is perfectly OK, this can happen any number of times in a day

still happens after a new oil sensor fitted (£288 !!!!!)

have they done an oil pressure test??? it could have debris in the oil pick up pipe causeing pressure loss, they should have removed the sump and cleaned it, sensors can easly be tested without the great expense of changeing just because they dont know the real problem, i think the techs these days have taken a step back in diagnostics take them laptops away and they are lost

oil light

Hi

The A class doesn't have an oil pressure sensor, the oil sensor measures: - oil level , oil quality, and oil temperature and I didn't need a lap top to tell me that. Unless the fault actually happens while the star machine is connected it is difficult to know where the fault lies, the sensor itself is most likley although they are not known for giving faults on the A class and as you say this has now been changed. You could check the following :-

Is the dipstick correct for the vehcle

Is the instrument cluster coded for the correct engine

drain the oil and put in the specified amount then test
