My MOT is due and the other day I noticed that my nearside fog light was not working. I brought a bulb (tail and fog) but this did not work either.
Today I decided to check out the electrics so I found that on the offside the wire is grey and green. When I looked at the nearside there is no wiring for the fog and it has one less conection than the offside. The Car is a '99 A Class.

Is this right? It just seems strange to me.

EDIT: It does seem to be OK as I checked This superb site which I visit often

Is this a rear light ? If so, looks like MB have gone the economy route and
just fitted the bulb and wiring to the right hand side.Legal, but pennypinching - particularly on what is a prestige brand ?

I noticed similar on my Eclass - (may be that a bulb has blown on mine - but not at 5k miles!)

Hi,

If my memory serves me correct, when I had my 99 A-class it only had one fog light on the rear.

Hello,

I think you'll find most mercedes only have a o/s/r fog light I'm talking about rhd british spec cars. Can't think of a model that has both! (Note: I'm only 22 so older models not included!)

They do that so following drivers can differentiate between brake lights and fog lights.

It is against the law to have two rear fog lamps.

All cars only ever have one.

It isn't illegal to have 2 fog lamps. Vauxhall Cavalier and Ford Sierra are 2 I can think of immediately. In recent times a single on the offside has become the norm, to distinguish from brake lights, which are also 21 Watt bulbs.

So sorry Uncle benz, you are correct in what you say, it would appear that a haines workshop manual that I have is incorrect, thank you for pointing it out.
