A class 1999 140
Hi all
This is my first post here so hope some one can help.
I have a A Class 140 1999 (v reg) and want to change the gearbox oil but is it a simple job? What oil is best? And how much do I need?
Thank you for any info :)

Auto or Manual gearbox??

Page 59a for auto, page 59 for manual.

If auto, be very careful to get the right ATF, if in doubt go to MB rather than save a few quid on some generic "exceeds MB Spec" ATF.

Hi it's a Manual gearbox. My manual dont say anything about gearbox. And on page 59 its on about wiper blade fitting lol.
I think I will have a look for a Haynes manual if they did one

Hi
Is not the gearbox oil on modern cars for life ?
Have you got a noise from the engine. What is the mileage on your car.

I have a Haynes manual for the A class, let me know what you need.

The page numbers refer to the website shown on whitenemisis's posting.
So page 59 for the manual gearbox fluid change.
You'll get 99% of anything you might ever need to know for an A-Class on that site, and the Haynes manual might give the missing 1% but I doubt it.

There's no noise but the cars done 81,000 and I want to keep it running good.
I thought gearbox oil goes acidic after some years (May be wrong) but changing it will get all the bits of metal grinding over the years..
Ps not long had the car so the others could of crunched the gears abit...
I'm going to order a Haynes off eBay think there only around £11 ish

Hi
Fair enough.
Have the idler pulleys on the fan belt been changed. I would change that for peace of mind.
