A-CLASS 160- I HAVE JUST GOT ONE FOR MY OTHER HALF AND HAVE JUST DISCOVERED THAT THERE IS WATER IN THE OIL. THE GARAGE SAY THEY HAVE DONE A COMPRESSION TEST AND IT OK. THEY THINK IT IS CONDENSATION. ANY COMMENTS? IS THIS NORMAL?[/b]
No experience of A class and I am not an expert by any means.
Is SWMBO only taking the car on short runs? Is the water temp indicating normal? Are you losing water from expansion tank ?
I suppose in the most adverse of circumstances it is possible to have free water in the sump (water is a product of combustion after all). BUT it ain't normal.
I would not have thought a compression test is a foolproof test anyways. They may be have a better chance of getting to the truth by putting a squeeze on the cooling circuit.
In sum, I think they are fobbing you off. I would insist they get to the bottom of it and do an oil change on completion of any defect rectification.
hello
As above , it is abnormal to have water mixing with the water. I have seen some A's with signs of condensation in the oil filler neck due to short trips but not water mixing with the oil.
Were you using coolant?
A compression test would not alway's show a problem with water mixing.
Get them to add a dye to the coolant , that should show up and coolant mixing.
Good luck
