a-class paintwork

My 2 year old silver A-class has a strange paint problem. It has several small patches that look like a wax residue, which disappear momentarily when wiped, but then reappear. They disappeared for a period of a couple of weeks when polished by the dealer, but are now beginning to show again. They are in various places on the car, some as small as a 10 pence piece, the largest approx 5 cm by 5 cm. Has anybody seen / experienced anything smiliar??

I guess the question is have you had the car from new ?
If not, it might be worth trying to track the previous owner down. It sound like some sort of residue that is showing that they may have some knowldge off , the dealer probably buffed it to get rid of it temporaraily.
If you have had the car since new, then I''d ask for full rectification, lord knows what it will look like at 5 years

Thank you for your reply.

I have had the car from new.
I have been back to the dealer and it is being monitored.
They have suggested that a 'paint' expert might be an option and also trying to take a picture to send back to Mercedes.
Their feeling is that it is something 'external' that may have caused it - but no conclusion as to what this might be. If this was the case then it would be down to me to rectify it.
The patches seem random on both sides of the car and have no consistent shape or size.

if it's appearing at random points and random shapes and sizes it does sound environmental. Bird lime, Tree sap, petrol and corrosive chemicals can all do it. Id get it well polished with a good quality wax and see what happens. In theory the wax should stop whatever it is getting to the laquer.
