Possible causes for this is blocked tank vents, or blocked fuel filter, you may also have a blocked charcoal filter.

it will be something along those lines,

sorry its a bit vague but it could be a fault anywhere along the fuel tank, supply or return system. i think it needs inspecting wot it is actually happening.

Hi
When you open the fuel cap, do you hear any hissing. If you do, would you say air is rushing in or coming out.

yes there is a lot of air rushing in or out but my wifes seems to do that aswell, i was told that this is because this is a fuel system that does not vent to outside air or something like that but seems strange if it wont start you open the cap and its fine again odd

Hi
Under the car at the rear. You have to take the guard plate off first.

There must be a vent of some kind fitted to allow air into the tank to fill up the space vacated by the fuel you use. This vent is not working.

On modern cars this vent is not simply a pipe open to the air but must keep back fumes from the fuel to comply with emmission regulations.

It is usually called a breather.

Do not know how it works on the A class but is probably fairly simple.

Alec.
