So went out this morning everything normal. Parked up for a couple of hours and upon return the blowers only work on 'full (number 5 speed)'. No fan on any of the other speeds. Seems strange it's just stopped all of a sudden so I'd welcome ideas etc. I hope it's going to be a straightforward fix because I'm not so bendy as I was 40 years ago!

Smashing Thanks! I thought it was most likely the resistor pack - I've just ordered one.

New pack arrived from Lister's this morning. Literally took me about 15 minutes to change and that included cleaning the contacts on the plug (sure enough, evidence of water contamination). Someone said the main stealers would want 1.5 hours labour!!!

Excellent, always great to hear problem resolved and without spending a fortune :)

With regards to the water contamination - please check (if you haven't already) the main water drain, under the cabin filter - often gets blocked, letting water into A/C system and everywhere else (battery compartment, SAM, blower resistor, et al).

Yes - I had to park by some fir trees for a few months and regularly check it now. It did block and the filter got soaked a couple of times so I won't be surprised if that contributed to the demise - although the old on had quite a lot of cracks in the green 'insulation' coating. It's a 2006 car so can't really complain...

Yup, know exactly what you mean  - mine is the same year ...
I should probably check and replace the blower resistor, just in case, or at least get one from MB and stick in spare parts box ... :)
