Morning all, Apologies if I have posted this in the wrong section...Just a couple of things from a new Benz owner! As you know (because I posted the other day) I picked up my 2001 E220 cdi Avantgarde last Saturday and I LOVE it, on the way home from work, (I drive from Orpington (kent) to Brentford (West London) and back again everyday, approx 120 miles a day. Twice this week, because of people who clearly cannot drive I have been stuck in traffic on the M25 for 2-3 hours and the Benz is such a nice place to be compared to my 2000 Astra diesel and I reach home feeling alot less tired than I used to in the Astra. Still I said I had a couple of things, 3 actually.

1. I cannot believe how economical the Merc is, question, How acurate is the fuel computer in these cars, because on the way into work in the morning(traffic quite clear) I have been getting up to 58.9 mpg. This is travelling at 65-70mph for most of the journey?? I thought id get alot less than that!!

2. Another good thing, I kinda bought the Merc for a number of reasons, one of them is because Im 6ft 5" and 2 years ago I damaged my back quite badly, (ruptured a couple of discs lots of siatica etc..... a nasty time) and the Astra just wasnt helping, the seat was just to small and the driving position to cramped. Well I recovered, eventually after about a year. Recently I have been having back problems again so Ive been seeing a Physio, I asked her to check my driving position in the Benz, she said it was spot on and the seat supported me perfectly and the driving position was "Just right".

3. But its not all good, my lovely, beautiful Benz suffered a terrible insult last night, on taking my sons 15 year old girlfriend home last night, the 2 of them got in the back of the car and the girlfriend pipes up and says "Ooooo I like your new car, the inside is very nice, and the leather is nice and soft, its just like being in the back of my dads car"........wait for it........her dad drives a "R" reg Ford Scorpio!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I didnt know whether to kick her out of the car and tell her tio get the bus or not, how dare she!!!!!!

Anyway.... I love my new Benz...... I just hope she doesnt develop any faults because some of the ones reported on this forum, sound very expensive!!! Bye for now!

Regards

Matthew

To be honest Matt, I know what she means. I had a Scorpio several years ago (Cossy one) and the interior really was the Mutts Nuts. To this day one of the comfiest cars I've been in. When asked (several times) about the Fugly R Send on it, I just used to answer *You don't see that when you're driving it" :D

What do girls know of quality cars!
My daughter commeted that she preferred the wheels on my Dad's E to mine. Mine are the uprated 17" twin spoke ones, his are the standard 16" variety!
Scorpios were nice to sit in (very plastic but the seats were big and comfy). Mine was velour but still quite nice. So are renaults but I wouldn't swap!

I used to drive mod'd Japanese cars and would get interesting loaners when getting work done to them.

I once spend a week smoking a 3.7 Scorpio (bored and stroked from 2.9).

I so enjoyed the grunt/comfy seat/auto box experience that I ended up with a C43 a year or two later :)
