Hello all

It's been a while since I was here, as my car has been running like clockwork up until recently.

It's a late 1995 w202 C230 Kompressor Sport for reference, 98K

First, a pesky ABS light - the old chestnut.

When I first bought the car in february last year, the light never illuminated until it went for it's MOT in April.

Then it never illuminated again until after the re-test, but spent a few months winding me up with no pattern in it's behavior. After reading about a possible brake light switch failure, I bought one. The very night I went to fit it, I decided I would unplug the ABS pump and clean the copper contacts in the plug before going on to fit the switch.

After plugging it back in, I started the car and the ABS light went out as it should - and the brake light switch went in my garage for a later date.

No problems for over 6000 miles, no light - Until today.

Unusually enough though, the car has been laid up outdoors since the end of january (thrrough all the snow etc) and I didn't even start it for 5 weeks, but every time I did, it had to have assistance off the jump starter because it was dead flat - but the light didnt come on on those occasions.

I just taxed it last tuesday, so its been 10 weeks unused, and after a 20 mile drive to work today, the light came on when i restarted it - and its been coming on intermittently between starts all day, (though not all the time).

Second problem is heater related - and my car does not have Air-Con, but does have individual heat settings for each side.

I thought it was strange this morning that the passenger side windscreen was clearing, but my side wasn't. Then later investigation found my vents were cold too, but hot on the passenger side.

No matter how I played with it, it kept blowing cold air - until i literally revved the car in excess of 5000 revs, then it got warmer - almost full heat. But after i stopped and restarted, cooler again. Could this have something to do with it being layed up in the cold weather and a vac pipe is blocked?

Any advice would be appreciated, and as my MOT is coming up soon, I need to be sure that ABS light don't pop on during its test.

Do you think my battery needs a good bench charge?

Cheers all

Ben

202's up to 09 95 have an OVP relay, do check the fuse on top.

Got to think about the heater, the duo valve normally sticks in the hot position

Found the OVP Relay, fuse is fine.

Went to put the new brake light switch on, and mine is a 2 pin unlike the 4 pin i was supplied. The switch was idetical otherwise, so i fitted it, but the one socket remains unused. So surely it couldn't have been this setting the light off.

Gave the battery a good charge today nevertheless!

We'll see what happens next weekend now!

Yes the brake light switch will not affect a 1995 car is it does not have BAS or any Can bus to speak of
