A general query on my W126 Autobox?

I have a new 88 420SEL with no user manual, can some one tell me what the letter B on the gear shifter selector is for? It engages a switch when shifted back and to the right. I have no idea.

I was wondering the same when looking at a 420 SEL this weekend, wonder what it's for?

I told my wife it is launch control and only ever touch it an extreme emergency or race situation!

B = bottom or 1st / 2nd only

the E/S switch is economy / sport. (later changed to w/s winter summer for electronic boxes)
