Hi Everyone,

Just wondered how the rest of the country coped with the recent snow fall

The north-east has been a nightmare, as scenes on local news will testify

my normal journey home a total of 16 miles normally takes between 40 and 50 minutes traffic prevailing:eek:

Wednesday evening I left my place of work at 5.20 P.M and arrived home at
10.45 P.M.

Wondered if anyone had the same problem

Regards

Yup I live in Newcastle, took my wife 3 hours to get from the kids nursery in Gateshead home last night.

I've been to Preston and back today and the a66 tonight was horrific!

A rwd e class, automatic and winter tyres does still not make a 'true' winter car IMO!

So true, i love my c class but as you say a rear wheel drive auto even with snow tyres is not ideal. Although i have found the C class to be less tale happy shall we say than the 5 series diesel I previously owned.

Thanks for your reply by the way

i had no real problems in my c220 cdi manual, with 'normal' (summer) tyres on. admittedly, i didnt need to go far, but its been fine. the traction control light has barely even flickered so far this year!

Mine was good today on the a66 to be fair not a murmur, but yesterday highlighted where the auto is a problem as it does its own thing and you have to brake to slow.

I'm a big miles man so it's great cruising but stuff like this my wife's little a class with 7 year old summer michelins just bobs across anything:lol:

I've had winter tyres fitted and still found on Monday they aren't that great. Plenty of fun sideways action and wheel spin...LOL

I'm driving down to York tomorrow but hear the weather is ok?

Winter tyres Sue? This is my first winter in the SL & I've had one journey out in the snow since changing my tyres. I climbed our hill & reversed into my drive no trouble where others revved & spun & retreated back down the hill. Hoping the rest of the winter will be as uneventful!

Reminds me of a friend who laughed at me for wastign money on winter tyres because it still wheelspan and skidded on the snow "just like normal tyres"! They will give traction at takeoff and actually stop you when you wouldn't otherwise be able to but IME I never noticed nor relied upon any more lateral grip or stability above 5mph...but atleast i was doing 5mph and not stuck at the bottom of the hill as others were!
