A or B service

Can anyone give me a 'what gets changed' on the A or B services on an A-Class 1999 160, I am taking my girlfriend's car to my tame mechanic tomorrow & will do fluids, plugs, filters and he will stamp the book but I would like to know whether to stamp the A or B bit!!

Also, what is the grade & quantity of oil for the gearbox?

It depends on whether the last service was A or B, although I thought that the A class assyst tells which one.

Regards all the other fluids besides oil, they are mostly time limited/miles under Aditional items in the back of your service book as is spark plugs.

I just want to give it the most I can, the servicing has been erratic of late (just bought the car & the oil was black) so which is the major service & what should be changed?
