Hi folks,
I'm looking into buying my first Mercedes and was wondering about the CLK. I've always liked the CLK and they seem quite affordable now, so I have a few questions :
1. Prices for the CLKs hover around $4000++, should I be aware of reasons why they go for cheap? (ie. any known reliability problems etc).
2. Are there any success stories of LPG converted Mercedes of this capacity?
3. What is the performance like as well as its economy?
Just a bit about myself, I'm new to UK and I've only bought manual sports cars overseas - Honda CRX, Nissan 300zx and currently a Skyline GTR. This time I'm going for safety and something more economical mainly because I don't think I can afford to drive sports cars given the petrol prices in UK (as well as car tax, mot etc). We have a family Mercedes 280 SE which is rock solid but heavy and boring to drive (I think its 0-100km/h performance is around 15 seconds). I started looking at the CLK 200 as it has the smallest engine (and maybe the lightest) so it should feel less like a boat.
My idea is to get a CLK and be happy with it for 5-10 years and possibly more. I'd like to make it affordable too by converting it to LPG (if it is possible). I could go for something a lot cheaper like a Ford Focus or Mondeo but I don't want to downgrade so much just to upgrade later.
Any advice would be appreciated thanks.
