hello
hope everyone is having great saturday...lovely weather here in edinburgh ...

aaaaaand this lovely weather is to be blamed for my openeing the bonnet and playing with MAF!
so i thought i will wash and polish my car...which I did... and then dunno what possessed me but i though! why not change the MAF .. dunno if anyone remembers, but I was having problems with MAF and loss of power ages back (fortunately!all fixed for the last 6 months) ... so i bought this MAF from ebay for i think £40 somethng like 6-7 months back....dont rememebr exactly! but i never fitted it ...
so today! i thought lets change it ...maybe it will improve my car acceleration !!!

sooooooo!!! I changed teh MAF.. .started car ....took it for a drive and guess what!!! car was behaving rather unsteady ...revving up fine and then showing lack of power then powering up again .... <oh the pain> ... anyhow! I came home and changed the MAF to the old one ... and guess what! car went all crazy ... total loss of power to begin with, had to start again and again as engine started cutting off at low revs...

theeeen! i left it like that and went inside to get some cold water (to drink that is) .... came back ... started the car ...it was still doing the same .... i wasnt dreaming, it was all hapening in broad day light ... anyways!! I thought lets take it for a drive .. so i took it on m8 .. it went there un-willingly .. shaking and showing lack of power ... and on motorway... I put teh car in 3rd gear( its automatic but by limiting it to 3rd gear) and drove it till the next junction at constant 5000 rpm.... and to my good surprise, it started working all fine, just like nothing had happened!!!!

now my question is!!! shall i put the ebay MAF in car again and try this whole 3rd gear run on m8...will it work or will it cause some damage ?!? teh MAF is same number as the one already in it.

I love my car ... but sometimes it acts like my girlfriend... totally happy chappy for few months, will go everywhere with me (when i want to)... wont complain about anything as long as i keep buying little presents for her ... and then one morning, she will just not listen to me ... mood will change in a second... and only place that can cheer her up is a trip to most expensive hairdresser( thats merc dealer in car's case)!!!

o and on that note! i think i should stop my essay of a question!

good day everyone!

p.s. I was just checking previous threads and CLK seems to be most effected by this whole loss of power issue... (just a thought)

Your engine ECU has to adapt to the new one, and was more than likely doing so when you took it off and put the old one back, and now it had to start all over again. If your car is going well on the new one, leave it as is, enjoy some more drink and the sunshine.

You cannot hurt the engine by playing with the MAF

I bought a new MAF off ebay a while back, load of rubbish! I sent it back for a refund and bought a proper one.
I would try and throw yours away as far as possible to stop you trying to change it again!
Allan.
