When I switch on or off the alarm via the key fob the green led under the rear view mirror flashes around 70 times ( ie about a minute)

All the alarm manual states is that if both red and green flash the batteries need replacing.

Any ideas as to what this long flash cycle means.

BTW the car is a W140 '97 but the alarm appears to be used in many other MB's

Hi,

I had a similar problem in my W202. It was definitely the batteries which were shot, I checked with the emergency key/transmitter card thingy and that unlocked and locked the car just fine.

The green light was the only light to flash on my car but thats because I know for a fact the red light has packed up and i've resigned myself to having to buy a new mirror (GRRRRRR) to get it working again.

I'd check that the red light is actually working before anything else :?

Good tip. When I bought the car (at auction) the mirror front/back was held together with elastic bands!! So perhaps the red led is kaput.

Since the alarm appears to do all that it should it is probably as you say, batteries.

But since the car came with only one key, until the V5 is in my name I can't obtain a new full set from MB and I'm reluctant to try anything with the batts in case I render the transmitter inoperative until it's reset by the black/white keys.

Thanks yr advice.
