Pretty much as Topic description...

I decided to fit my new wheel caps
cap.jpg
today, the front alloys came off without any problems.

However, the rear alloy wheels seemed like they were bonded to the rear brake assembly. Even with all five of the wheel nuts removed the rear wheels would not budge. They eventually came off after I smacked the living daylights out of them with blocks of wood and a rubber mallet.

Have you other C classers out there also found this a problem? Is this common?

I'm just glad I found this out on a nice sunny in my own driveway and not on some rain soaked night on the side of the road when a flat needs changing.

thats pretty normal on most cars Steve.

trick I use is rotate the wheel and bang it with either the foot as it goes round or the palm of your hand

Hi K. :)

My old Peugeot and 190E were never that bad, mind you those only had standard pressed steel wheels so that might explain the difference.

Thanks for the 5Mb pano by the way... Awesome pic.

I've come across this but only where alloys were involved - probably something to do with corrosion.  You could try a very light smearing of copperlube(?) between the two surfaces - keeping well away from the disc of course.

Hiya,

No need to go to such expense. Just use normal grease. Does the job fine. We have had some real experiences where the wheel won't come off. Taking up to 10mins with some delicate touches to remove the thing.
