Hi all,
I am after a very brief bit of help please from existing W212 E63 and W213 E63 and E53 Estate owners. I have always been under the impression that the AMG models were not homologated to tow, but looking at the currently hosted online eBrochure (valid from June 2021 production) on the Mercedes website, both E53 and E63 Estates are homologated to tow 1,900kg.
The online configurator for both models does not allow the purchase of a towbar, so I asked for clarification from the Mercedes webchat team. They tell me, and I do find this hard to believe - hence why asking here, that the car *is* homologated to tow 1,900kg but I need to source the towbar from the aftermarket.
I am thinking of treating myself to a replacement for my trusty S211, but have been put off because I need to tow, and I don't want an SUV. My ideal replacement would be a late W212, or an early W213 E63. A nearly new E53 also appeals, but mainly because I think it is unlikely that the age of E63 I am considering is homologated to tow.
Can anyone with a W212/W213 E53 or E63 do me a quick favour next time you are getting in your car? On the B-pillar, visible only when the car door is open, will be a VIN sticker that looks something like this.
The difference between the first two weights on this sticker (in this example, 4,500kg - 2,400kg = 2,100kg) is the weight that the car is homologated to tow.
Could you reply back here saying what year E53/E63 yours is, and whether there is a difference between these two weights please? That way, I can establish which versions of the car are legally homologated to tow.
Many thanks,
Martin.
