Today the E 240 departed for the great motorway in the sky.
Over the 5 years we've had her she took us to and from France at least 20 times and became a faithful work horse.
She started our ownership with 114k miles and was never pretty or anything near pristine but we knew her time was coming. We actually only expected 2-3 years from her so five years has been a real bonus.
Earlier this year I had to repair an earthing point on the right front inner wing and struggled to find good solid metal. I put the trolley jack under the drivers front jacking point and started to lift. Watched as the jack went up and the car didn't.
Her time had definitely come.
On her last trip in July she excelled herself once again with a fuss free trip returning 30mpg average.
It has been one of the most reliable cars I've had.
We bought her originally for just £600. Today, 53k miles later, we sold her for £600.
Five years for the cost of fuel, tyres, brakes, a radiator, air con compressor and a pair of suspension spheres has definitely made her the cheapest car to run I have ever had.
Good bye old girl. Rest in pieces.
