According to the russion site they dont have the no listed for my one.
They have the correct picture of it, the no' 55 but cant see it listed.

Also need a gaitor but found that.

Many thanks

If you are just going to replace the 1, then just go to MB and they will sort out the part number and correct one

Would agree if their old and worn, but a matched spec should replace a damaged one without any variation. And certainly if parts are to live up to the MB claims. If they were worn out I would replace both. Its as you say getting an exact replacement.

I believe your thinking is rather flawed regarding this, as soon as you put any item on a car it will wear regardless of how good a replacement unit is, shock absorbers wear equally as a pair from the moment they are fitted, they are manufactured/assembled to a known set of parameters, your single old shock though not showing any wear will most definetly be worn, by replacing only one shock, you could have different ride hieghts between each side, could cause issues with wheel alignment etc.
This is very much your call, but please be aware that possible problems "could" arise

I can’t argue with your logic mate, certainly for springs I would agree, even just for peace of mind. Especially if we were talking about an old ford. But we're not, and shocks shouldnt 'wear' at differing rates. The oil inside them may degrade but then its time to replace them. A shock absorbs the energy from the spring. Thats all. And unless they're active or resistive i.e. magneto ferrofluidic an older shock should be the same and as good as a new equivilent or its faulty.
Even forgetting my situation for a minute, shocks or any 'paired' item would be impossible to degrade precisely and equally anyway. Likewise buying a new pair would have no absolute guarantee they would be precisely matched with the same performance and same characteristics.
Granted they may ALL meet a certain specification when new, but I would find it hard to believe they were sold as precisely matched pairs anyway and if what you say is true then each could easily degrade at different rates beyond an acceptable amount, even disregarding use. If it is true an undamaged MB 'used' shock was in anyway noticeably different from a new one, then we're talking about the wrong cars. And they would only sell them in pairs.
