I have a 190e a couple of tossers nicked mine before xmas. I bought a new one and i took nearly an hour to fit - your meant to be able to turn the clasp underneath and pull the whole unit out, in reality i found that this is impossible (especially with a new one as the spring is so tight) so i took the pin out - it then took the hour to manage to pull the spring back down and fit it (with someone helping). So in short, no, its not that easy but doable.

Hope this helps

PS Merc Will fit a new one for £16 for the star and £25 labour

Clamp a Vise Grip on to the bottom of the retainer under the bonnet(securely) cos if it lets go when pulling on it you will rip the skin off every nuckle you have off the grille, dont ask how I know. Pull down firmly, rotate until it lines up with the gaps in the grille, then remove, insert new one and rotate retainer(no real pressure needed) until it pops off its rests.
Job done
