I'm not making this up... talk about bad luck!

On the M50 in Ireland to get to the ferry and the failed O2 Sensor causes misfiring. My engine started misfiring badly. I made it to the ferry and called my breakdown

They said my car is out of tax so they won't cover me.

The tax is out by 3 days and I wasn't in the UK to get the reminder.

I made it to the ferry but I'm f***ed for when I get off.

It's 285 miles to my home from Holyhead. I am assuming making that drive is a no no?

I might pop down to the truckers lounge and see if there are any car transporters going my way..

Totally gutted - I bought that policy specifically for this trip and now that would mean £150 down the drain really and probably more cost on top if I need to get car transported.

Which breakdown service do you use Conor?

I don't see why its any business of the breakdown company if the road fund licence is 3 days overdue.

Hope you manage to get some joy out of a transport company.

Edit....It might be easier to just tax the car online where you are now and call the breakdown company again.

Surely you can tax it online now, then all will be OK when you arrive at Holyhead, for the recovery guys?

Disconnect the O2 sensor. It will run ok.
The issue is the sensor is sending bad information.

Interesting.. a couple of lads mentioning that so will try it out.

Will be an issue getting access but even if I could snip wire from above that would do me.

It's not really of any interest to them, it's just a way for them to get out of paying out for a claim.

I have tried, but I don't have any of the required information (reminder letter / V5).. I have most other bits accessible on my laptop but for this car I seem to be missing a scan of the V5.

Which is why I now keep the V5 numbers stored in my phone...

Yeap. I have the V5s for every other car saved in Onedrive. Just missed the SL for some reason.. and then Murphy (Murphys law) came for his pound of flesh.

This is a disaster!

Call DVLA and explain the situation, they may be prepared to help otherwise you are at risk of having your car siezed when you arrive in UK.

Also just to confirm bank locations.

On my M113 V8 I believe that Bank 1 is the same side as cylinder 1 .. which in the UK is the driver side. is that correct?

It's a company called EBC.

Sorry to say but you shouldn’t be on the road without VED.

The breakdown cover are well with their rights to not come out, as are the police to impound your car. I hope you don’t get picked up by an ANPR car or a camera.

You paid 150 breakdown cover for what car.

best of luck regardless.

Smart + others :)
I use an app to remind me of when tax and mot’s are due. I have all the family and company cars on it, so easy to track.

I put mine in my calendar with a month reminder for MOT, VED and Insurance...
Although I tend to pay monthly in VED so that never goes out

I think you'll find that ALL breakdown co's will have an 'unroadworthy' clause in their T's & C's. No insurance Co will support an unroadworthy vehicle.
