My SL is in for service today, and I have been given an A200 loan car by the dealership. Just to say how impressed I am by the interior, these really have come a long way in the last few years. The display, controls and interior materials are all first class. It is a 2023 car with 1,000 miles. Very impressed. It drives OK too, although I miss the power, it does move when requested. I think it is a diesel, although it is hard to tell, the engine is very quiet.

It’s “ALL” about the drivers interface these days and zero about what’s under the bonnet or how or which wheels are driven. The electronics take care of all of that…:(
My eldest has one, he’s no idea if it’s front wheel drive or rear wheel drive, don’t think he’s ever opened the bonnet… it’s the way these days…:(

Yes, the displays are amazing, brightly coloured, high resolution graphics, very appealing to the eye, lots to do while your driving, lots of information, and brightly coloured photos. Pretty much to appeal to the iPhone generation. I am sure I could connect to the internet and type this as I am driving along.

As you say, I can't tell if it is FWD or AWD. 1,332cc is an eye opener, I assumed 2 litres. It does move quite well, I wonder if it's turbo charged.

A quick google shows 163 bhp from 1,332cc, 4 cylinders mild hybrid, which is quite impressive. Top speed 143, 8.3 secs 0-60. No mention of forced induction. 270NM. 1,450 kg. 45-48 mpg. 7 speed auto.

Is it these cars that have the Renault engine? Only the larger engines are actual Mercedes.
I no longer believe a mid range benz engine is any better than any other mid range make. Was a time u wud expect a clear 3,400 k engine life, and get it, that's no longer the plan. And the illusion ref benz quality

Quote found online:
"Renault and Daimler have developed a high-efficiency turbocharged 1.3 liter direct-injection gasoline engine. It debuted in the Renault Scenic crossover and Megane hatchbacks in 2018 and is also used in front-wheel-drive Mercedes models such as the A Class. The engine is seen as a key to reducing fleet emissions in the wake of slumping diesel sales, especially for small and midsize cars."

Ah right, that is interesting. The engine is a bit characterless, but seems to work OK.

I had one as a loner on my last service. I also thought that it was excellent. MB York gives it to you with an empty tank?:( Apparently customers abuse the privelege when they get it with plenty fuel.

My wife’s B-Class (2014) has a 1600cc Renault diesel.

All car engines are turbocharged these days.
In most cases CC has came down and power output has went up, so there is not the correlation between the two that there used to be.

I remember my first drive in a turbo charged car (Mitsubishi Colt IIRC) about 1982. My boss had sent me to collect his wife's car and I was accelerating onto the motorway when the turbo kicked in. It was a shock.

Yes that was back in the days when it was special and exciting, and if you had a 'Turbo' badge on your car it really meant something.
Turbocharging these days is done more for efficiency rather than performance.

I’d say it is a combination. Turbo charging is getting a lot of power out of low cc engines.

Thats correct, it is all the same thing...getting more power for less effort. :)
