A140 engine diagnostic light on with CD player out of work

Hi there,

I just encountered a wired problem with my A140 Piccadilly (Manual).

Everything was fine yesterday morning, but when I got off work, I couldn't lit the engine up, while turning the key, all indicator lights went grey, my colleagues and I thought it was a battery problem, (but windows and mirrors can be operated) so we used another car's battery to light my car. (Connected two cars' battery by wires)

The car was successfully started but then the "engine diagnostic indicator lamp" went on and my CD player stopped working (the word "CODE" is flashing there). Since then I've driven for about 10 miles and everything was all right, just like nothing happened. And I could use my own battery to light the engine on again, tried several times, no failure at all.

Has anyone encountered similar situation before can give me some suggestions about what's going on there? Really puzzled and worried if that is serious.:(

Thanks a lot for your patience and help.

Cheers

The reason that I post this thread in this sub forum instead of the engine one is I don't think it's an engine problem cause everything is fine when driving.

I am thinking if it is because the connected "external battery" generated a different voltage pulse that disturbed the internal diagnosis system? (does that make any sense?)
