Hi folks.

After trying to 'zap' the A-140 classic (1999) open after work yesterday without any success I replaced the batteries and still no joy! The 'flip out' key didn't seem to be responding. I phoned a few mechanics and dealerships, all cotradicting each other... After no joy I bit the bullet and opened the door manually with the alarm blazing. I drove home and managed to lock it again manually with the alarm finally stopping!!!
The Mercedes dealership said to leave it in and they'll have a look. It's 40 miles to there and I don't fancy this journey sounding like i've a police escort only for them to be of no use!
In the manual it says about hitting the open button on the key-fop and turning to position 2. It doesn't say however if it will reset the alarm... Also as there is no responce from the car when I use the Key-fob i'm wondering if it's worth risking setting off the alarm again incase it mightn't work...
ANY help would be much appreciated.

Hi
After a new battery, the fob has to be synchronised with the alarm. Hold it close to the driver door, pointing to the dashboard. Then press the open button, twice in quick succession.

Cheers,

Tried that yesterday but not much joy. I'll try it again just to be on the safe side.

Up-date

I've tried the aforementioned tip but no success. The doors still won't open with the key-fob. I've been told that un-hooking the black battery lead will reset the car's settings to factory mode... Anyone know if this is true/wise to do and if so how do you get to the battery without using an angle grinder?
Thanks

Brendan

Sorted!...

Just incase it's of use to anyone else - After a fair while trying everything I managed to get the alarm off by inserting the key into the ignition and turning it half way. I then pressed the buttons for a few seconds and that knocked off the alarm. Hopefully it's re-syncronised the key-fob. Still don't know how or why it went faulty in the first place.

All the best
