Hello everybody,

my uncle's a170 cdi w168 with an automatic 722.7 that he uses as a mobility car is throwing a transmission error and displaying an f on the dash. He visited a mechanic and was told that it mostly is the transmission ecu that goes bad. I found a donor transmission from an a140 that I would take the ecu from.
My question is, do both transmissions have the same ecu?
If yes is it just plug and play or does it have to be coded with star?
Every input is appreciated

Does nobody have an idea? My uncle is really dependent on the car and so far I couldn't find an A170 for donor parts.

I helped a friend strip and repair and A-Class a couple of years ago, we removed the transmission ECU and sent it off to ECU Testing for repair.

pop the vin up and I will cross check.

However, the auto boxes in these are well renowned for failures due to splitting/cracking K1 clutch drum

Thanks for your offer. Since I don't live near him I'm not able to assist him more by bringing the car to a mechanic and have to rely on his mechanic's response.
The vin is: WDB1681091J717448.
Unfortunately I don't have the vin of the donor car however I do have the transmission number of it: a1683703200

Is the mechanic a MB specialist, did the mechanic use a code reader, did the mechanic conclude on a whim.

No the mechanic is not a MB specialist. He read the codes and after deleting them the car drove fine for quite a while, which makes him believe that it is the ecu.
