A160 39k cylinder 4 misfire

Hi looking for some advice my engine management light came on back in June I booked it in which has taken 6 weeks for them to look at they say cylinder 4 has a misfire, they say coil pack and ignition is fine they want to strip the engine which will cost thousands how can this possibly be on a 4 year old car with 39k on the clock any advice would be appreciated

It does sound unlikely for the mileage covered. Have they performed a compression test? Do you have the results you can share?

They want £500 to do a compression test I’m at my wits end with them as they won’t go to head office about it without finding the problem what worries me as they say to do the compression test they need to strip the engine and if that still has no answer then it’s full engine strip

Wtaf?? A compression test is simple and straightforward. I think you need to get the car out of there and to someone sensible

Thank you thought it sounded crazy I’m going to pick it up in the morning then try to find someone else to have a look the light has been off for 3 weeks now and the car runs smoothly like it always has no difference at all which also makes me think it much can be wrong

Does anyone know a good garage in the Essex area who maybe able to look at it for me as Mercedes have said if I can find out the issues they may be able to help thanks

right , a good few months back a lady was on here about her hubbys A class petrol doing a similar thing , I'm sure it was the wiring harness to the injectors that was at fault in that case so id 1. change garages as they sound like robbing tw** and 2. have the wiring looked at

Any chance of a picture, a bird's eye view, of whats under the bonnet.
