Hi guys, i have a 2004 A160 auto with 25k on clock.
from time to time, when pulling off quick from a standstill, the trans will make a clunk and jerk a little, sending the car into F mode. as i say, it only happens once in a blue moon and when it does, all it takes is to turn the ignition off and back on again and its right as rain for ages.
any ideas? should i be concerned?

normally waiting will get you the answer you need!!!!!! to help with your question you need a new ETC control valve block, this im sorry to say isnt uncommon with the a class 168, if it isnt causing you to many concerns then i would put up with it due to the cost!!!

A 160 Automatic F Mode

Hi All (New Here)

I bought a w168 automatic on a W Plate, and did not notice it was running in F Mode.
It appeared to be stuck in 2nd or third gear.....engine sounded sweet though and everything else worked.

I took it to a place called automatic transmissions limited for a diagnostic...they at first could not read the codes until they downloaded an update to their diagnostic machine (strange they had another A class in there with the gearbox stripped off)....They read the codes as p1875-00 p18755-02 Cam selector and importantly p1886 1/4/3 downshift PW valve Pressure too low or too high.

The cleared the fault and the P1886 recurred. I attempted to drive it and the car switched up and through the gears but lacked power to the road, however it did not drop down through the gears, I could change the gear by tapping the gear selector however the car lacked power.
I put my foot down and the car jolted and went into F mode where power to the road was restored, but obviously the gears now do not change.

Is the problem likely to be gear oil level, and if so what type and how much should it have....or is it a box rebuild which they have quoted me £1200 for.
They claim a cracked disk.....I can buy a recon box for between £300 and £500 and drop the entire engine and box to change it.....has anyone else come across the same issue.....what fixed it?

ETC?
Electronic throttle control?.....
but there is nothing wrong with the engine revs, it runs smoothly, just no putting the power to the road through the torque converter......will a recon box fix this?....please, I need to know what is the oil type and capacity?
