I have just replaced the engine in my A160 and got it running - unfortunately in lowering the engine, gearbox, steering sub-frame I must have pulled too hard on the left outer CV and it appears to have "dislocated". Is there a way of relocating it without removing the boot?

Been a long day, chuffed the engine works but I am going to bed now....

I don't think engine replacement on A Class is the kind of thing that many would attempt on a DIY basis!

Ok, I have stripped the rubber boot off and it was immediately apparent that "inards" had dismantled themselves such that it would have been impossible to undislocate with the boot on. Have cleaned it all up, reassembled and will fit a new rubber boot tomorrow.

As a matter of interest, having removed and replaced the engine in this A160 I find it pretty easy to work on (once you have the whole lot lowered from under the car). The trick is to have a good, solid frame to fix to the sub frame. I have stripped a few cars in my youth, but never anything as modern as this and can honestly say as a layman/DIY that it is no more daunting than working on (say) a mini engine.

Anyway, having said that, lets hope the darned thing runs once I have the CV fitted!

Some photos...

Some shots of the outer CV with the grease cleaned out and the innards all put back together - it was pretty basic slipping all the balls back in place...

This is a shot of the CV kit from MB @ $78.00. It comes with the rubber boot, 2 straps (I used cable ties), a tube of grease and a new drive axle nut...

Another of the CV....

I did not use the straps because I did not have the tool to crimp it. Might get around to buying one sometime...
