A160 will not idle!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi guys. I have an A160 in the workshop today that will not idle. I have checked all of the obvious stuff like air leaks, condition of throttle body, etc. I have the autodata CD that gives various sensor tests and data but all to no availe. I have seen a thread on this site that mentions problems with the air flow/ECU unit and also some probs with the gearbox electrics. Does anybody know of a way of testing for these specific faults without a code reader. I have ordered a unit but it will not be with me before I have to get the car ready for the customer. Any helpful hints would be most welcome.
