Hi,
My father is having problems with his A170 CDi auto on an 02 plate with 110k miles. Initially the problem was that the dash lights wouldn't come on and the engine wouldn't turm. MB in Canterbury replaced the key barrel and for a while (2 weeks approx) the problem didn't occur. However, after a few weeks when trying to start the car the dash lights would come on, the engine would spin but not fire. If the car was left for 5-20 mins there would be no problem for 2-3 days. MB also changed the crankshaft sensor, but that made no difference. The problem exists with both sets of keys.

Can anyone assist or point us in the right direction?

Hello there,
Possibly a camshaft position sensor as these are both needed for syncronisation and for starting. wot fault codes are coming up?

We took the car to the MB garage in Canterbury, Vikings, not the main dealers, and it broke down again as we pulled into the forecourt. The mechanic there found the problem within 5 mins. It turned out that the fuel filter was a non MB original and the filter paper had disintegrated. Filter replaced and no more problems!
