A180 CDI 14 plate

A180 CDI 14 plate with 67,000 on the clock every now and again (roughly 2 weekly) the engine seems to smell and slightly smoke. A local garage has said it’s the turbo but it hasn’t gone yet it’s just leaking slightly and just to leave it and change when necessary. Does this sound correct or will it cause more damage or could it even be something else. The car drives perfect no power problems other than this smoking every so often there’s been no dashboard lights come on. Any help appreciated thanks !
